Vacuum Forming

Description

An in-house vacuum forming jig used to prototype tray geometries for personal onco-genomics (POG) biopsies.

Features

  • Built entirely with rapid prototyping techniques (waterjet, sheet metal, 3D printing)

  • Designed & built from scratch in several days

  • Can easily be used in conjunction with a stand alone oven

  • Foot pedal actuated

  • Portable (roller feet)

Unique Notes

Advances in 3D printing now allow vacuum formed parts to be rapidly prototyped.  Depending on the plastic printed and the material to be formed, moulds can be 3D printed within hours and used to form prototypes immediately.  This makes instant testing and development of new products possible.
